About GTS-Infotel Nigeria

GTS-Infotel Nigeria was formed in 2005 with the primary objective to become the pioneer Telecom VAS Operator, specializing in the provision of virtual long numbers –  dedicated to Enterprise Communication Platforms, accessible to the entire base of mobile subscribers over Voice & SMS channels.

However, due to existing regulation – for more than 10 years, GTS-Infotel Nigeria has only been able to operate as a licensed VAS Content Provider, specializing in:

  • Provision of 2-way SMS Shortcodes services to Enterprises and other VAS Providers, through direct connections of its SMS Gateway platform to the 4 mobile network operators
  • Provision of VoiceMail & Missed Call Alert solution to Globacom.
  • Aggregation of Caller Ring Back Tone (CRBT) and other digital Content on MTN & Airtel networks, in partnership with various local & international Content Providers.

Nonetheless, while being faced with multiple ecosystem challenges in the development of VAS Shortcodes business, GTS-Infotel finally obtained a VAS/Special Numbering Service license in July 2014, with ranges of virtual long numbers on 0700 & 0800 prefixes in June 2017.

Unfortunately, due to refusal of some mobile operators to sign a Voice & SMS Interconnection Agreement, GTS-Infotel has not been able to activate its range of VAS numbers across all the GSM networks, in order to guarantee its interoperability as part of the national numbering plan.

In fact, despite multiple requests for intervention, there was no directive from the Regulator (NCC) with respect to the obligation of mobile operators to interconnect new SNS licensees for the operation of Voice & SMS communications services provision – for Enterprises.

Since GTS-Infotel was constrained from being able to launch its SNS business during the 5-years of license duration, the license was not renewed pending the publication by NCC of the determination of Voice & SMS termination rate applicable to SNS licensees.

The value of GTS-Infotel’s technical expertise and professionalism, has enabled the company and his founder to earn the following industry recognition:

  • GTS-Infotel Nigeria is the first licensed VAS Provider, appointed as a member of the Industry Working Group on Shortcodes regulation – setup by the NCC in 2013.
  • The National Executive Council (NEC) of Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), appointed the Founder & Managing Director of GTS-Infotel Nigeria to serve in the capacity of Coordinator, Value Added Services Providers in the 2014 – 2016 National Executive Council of the Association.
  • In October 2015, the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) granted to the Founder & Managing Director of GTS-Infotel Nigeria, the Pioneer Award for his enormous contribution in the development of the Telecoms VAS market in Nigeria.
